Success in South Staffs: Penkridge North is approved by committee
Define is celebrating a major planning success after securing resolutions to grant planning permission for the first two phases of a key strategic allocation at Penkridge North. The approvals mark the culmination of an exceptionally busy six-week period for the Define team, during which they have been involved in three planning committees, a public inquiry and a Local Plan Examination - all focused on this key site. The outcome reflects both the scale of the opportunity at Penkridge North and the depth of commitment from everyone involved.
Define’s involvement began with the promotion of land to the south of the allocation, which successfully secured approval at appeal in 2019. Building on that momentum and recognising the merits of land to the North of Penkridge as a sustainable location for growth, the Council proposed to allocate additional land for the delivery of residential-led mixed use development; two phases of which will now be delivered by Bloor Homes.
Define has provided planning, masterplanning and landscape advice in bringing this site forward, working in close partnership with the Council and a wide range of stakeholders. This has shaped the Strategic Masterplan that will realise the delivery of a truly sustainable, well-planned and high-quality new neighbourhood. Once complete, Penkridge North will deliver around 1,100 new homes, alongside a first school, Community Hub, Riverside Park and a significant new active travel link connecting the site with Penkridge village centre – bringing lasting benefits to both new and existing residents.
Define is delighted with the approval of the two phases, which represents a significant milestone for the project and a testament to hard work and collaboration between the client project team and key stakeholders.
